Starter Motor: Component Tests and General Diagnostics

Pull-In Test

For the following procedures, it is necessary to remove starter magnetic switch from starter.

1. Connect battery positive to S terminal of magnetic switch. Ground magnetic switch M terminal.
2. Ensure plunger is pulled into switch.

Hold-In Test

For the following procedures, it is necessary to remove starter magnetic switch from starter.

1. Connect battery positive to magnetic switch S terminal. Ground switch body.
2. Push plunger into switch. Ensure plunger stays in switch.

Interlock Switch

Refer to the interlock switch wiring diagram, Fig. 25, when testing interlock switch.

1. Disconnect connector and connect ohmmeter to switch.
2. With pedal depressed, continuity should exist between the two terminals. With pedal released, continuity should not exist between the two

terminals.

3. If either check is bad, replace switch.
