Starter Motor: Testing and Inspection
Hold-In Test
For this procedure, it is necessary to remove starter magnetic switch from starter.
1.
Connect battery positive to magnetic switch S terminal. Ground switch body.
2.
Push plunger into switch. Ensure plunger stays in switch.
Internal Inspection

For inspection of the internal components of the starter motors, refer to Fig. 12.
No-Load Test

After adjusting pinion gap, form a test circuit as in Fig. 6 using a voltmeter and an ammeter. Use heavy gauge wire and tighten terminals fully.
2.
Close switch K to run starter, voltage and ammeter readings, refer to Starting and Charging/Starting System/Specifications for specifications.
