1994 626/MX-6 vehicles with a VIN of 1YVGE .... R5109232 or less
DESCRIPTION
If the ash tray will not open or opens unintentionally, the cause may be the ash tray locking pin. If a customer complains of this problem, follow the
procedures in this bulletin to repair the ash tray mechanism.
NOTE:
Do not replace the ash tray to correct this problem. If the ashtray is stuck closed, it may be necessary to remove the ashtray retainer from the console
and insert an 90 degree pick to release the ashtray insert.
REPAIR PROCEDURES
1.
Remove ash tray insert from console.
2.
Remove any debris that may obstruct normal ash tray operation (opening and closing).
3.
Locate the round, metal lock pin on the fight side of the ash tray. Refer to Fig. 1.
4.
Pull the pin out of the ash tray using pliers.
NOTE:
Wrap a cloth around the pin to avoid damage when removing.
5.
Apply a small amount of super glue to the inserted end of the pin
6.
Insert pin back into the ash tray.
