Camshaft: Service and Repair

1. Deactivate audio anti-theft function, as outlined under Technician Safety Information, before disconnecting battery.
2. Relieve fuel system pressure as outline in Technician Safety Information.
3. Remove timing belt.
4. Remove distributor as outlined in Powertrain Management/Ignition System.
5. Use wrench to hold camshaft on cast hexagon and loosen camshaft pulley bolt, then remove pulley.
6. Remove camshaft cap bolts in five or six steps in order,

7. Remove caps and camshafts, then oil seals from camshafts.
8. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:

a. Apply clean engine oil to camshaft journals and bearings, then install and apply silicone to shaded areas.
