1.
Raise and support vehicle.
2.
Remove driveshaft components in numerical order, Fig. 2, noting the following:
a. Apply brakes to lock hub, then raise locknut tab and loosen but do not remove locknut.
2.
Use pry bar to disconnect driveshaft from transaxle. Do not damage boot or oil seal.
3.
Insert pry bar between driveshaft and joint shaft and tap on bar to uncouple them.
4.
If necessary, use tool 490839425C or equivalent to push driveshaft out of front hub.
5.
After removing driveshaft, insert tool to hold side gear. Use tool 49G030455 or equivalent on non-turbo models, or tool 49H027003 or equivalent
on turbo models.
6.
Reverse removal procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Install a new clip on end of driveshaft. Before installing shaft, check transmission oil seal for damage and apply transaxle oil to oil seal lip.
b. After installation, pull front wheel hub outward and ensure driveshaft does not disengage.
c. Torque stabilizer link nut to 12-17 ft.lbs. and ensure there is .79 inch of thread exposed.
