1.
Place a piece of masking tape on steering wheel and column cover.
2.
Drive vehicle on a straight, flat road for at least 18.6 ft. and note steering wheel position, then stop and mark straight ahead position on steering
wheel and column cover tape.
3.
Attach a suitable scale to column cover as shown, Fig. 2.
4.
Raise and support vehicle, then place a dial indicator against one rear tire and set indicator to zero.
5.
With marks on steering wheel and column cover aligned, start engine and turn steering wheel slowly to the right and, using the scale on the column
cover, note the rotation of steering wheel at the point when the rear wheels begin to turn (dial indicator begins to move).
6.
Turn steering wheel left and right a few times to equalize hydraulic pressure, then realign marks between steering wheel and column cover.
7.
Reset dial indicator to zero and turn steering wheel slowly to left and, using scale on column cover, again note rotation of steering wheel at point
when rear wheels begin to turn.
8.
The center position is determined by finding the difference between measurements in steps 5 and 7 and halving that number. If center position is
not within specification, adjust steering angle transfer shaft.
