Stabilizer Bar: Service and Repair

1.
Raise and support vehicle.
2.
Remove parts in numerical order, Fig. 5.
3.
Check stabilizer for bending or damage, stabilizer bushings for deterioration or wear, retainers and spacers for bending or damage, bushings for
deterioration or wear and bolts for bending or damage. Repair or replace as necessary.
4.
Reverse removal procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Align stabilizer bracket bushing with installation position line on stabilizer and install so that notch faces rear of chassis.
b. Mount brackets of stabilizer first and loosely tighten them. After mounting control links, torque brackets to specification with vehicle on
ground and unloaded.
c. Tighten link nut so that there is .79 inch (20.1)mm of thread exposed.
W/O 4 Wheel Steering
1.
Raise and support vehicle.
2.
Remove stabilizer attaching nuts together with upper retainer and bushing.
3.
Remove bolt together with lower retainer and bushing.
4.
Remove inner bushings and retainers with spacer.
5.
Remove stabilizer bracket with bushing, then the stabilizer.
6.
Check stabilizer for bending or damage, stabilizer bushings for deterioration or wear, retainers and spacers for bending or damage, mounting
bushings for deterioration or wear and the bolts for bending or damage. Repair or replace components as necessary.
7.
Reverse removal procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Align stabilizer bracket bushing with installation position line on stabilizer and install so that notch faces rear of chassis.
b. Mount brackets of stabilizer first and loosely tighten them. After mounting control links, torque brackets to specification with vehicle on
ground and unloaded.
c. Tighten link nut so that there is .79 inch (20.1mm) of thread exposed.
