Air Bag(s) Arming and Disarming: Service and Repair

AIR BAG SYSTEM GENERAL PROCEDURE

Before Servicing

1. Deactivate the audio antitheft system, if installed. 
2. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK.
3. Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait for more than one minute to allow the backup power supply to deplete its stored power.
4. Disconnect the orange and blue clock spring connectors.

5. Remove the glove compartment.

6. Disconnect the orange and blue passenger-side air bag module connectors.

After Servicing

1. Connect the negative battery cable.
2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
3. Verify that air bag system warning light illuminates for 4-8 seconds and then goes off.

4. If the air bag system warning light remains on, off, or repeats flashing after servicing, there are malfunctions in the system.
