SERVICING THE PLASTIC CAGED OVERDRIVE ONE-WAY CLUTCH
APPLICABLE MODELS/VINS
All 1992 - 94 Navajo Vehicles
All 1994 B-Series Vehicles
DESCRIPTION
The 4ALD transmissions built from June 9, 1992 through current production contain a plastic one-way clutch that is not serviceable. If removed, this
plastic one-way clutch should not be installed. Reinstallation into the center shaft will damage the plastic cage and result in transmission failure.
If replacement is necessary, a steel caged O/D one-way clutch is available. Follow the instructions in this bulletin when replacement is necessary:
REMOVAL PROCEDURES
1.
Remove the retaining ring from the O/D gear. See Fig. 1.
2.
Use a drift through the lubrication holes in the front of the center shaft and a soft mallet to carefully drive out the plastic caged O/D one-way
clutch. Discard after removal. See Fig. 2.
3.
Remove the center shaft from the ring gear and discard the ring gear.
NOTE:
The ring gear is not machined to accept a retaining washer.
