Run the engine at idle for 10 minutes and monitor the ECT temperature. See illustration.

If engine temperature drops below 182°F, the thermostat is stuck open and needs replacing.

If the ETC temperature stays above 83.5°C (182°F), the thermostat does not need replacing.
