Fuel Pressure Regulator: Testing and Inspection

Fig. 43 Connecting fuel pressure gauge.

1.

Disconnect battery ground cable.

2.

Remove fuel pump cover, then disconnect fuel pump electrical connector.

3.

Reconnect battery ground cable, then start engine.

4.

Stop engine, then disconnect battery ground cable and reconnect fuel pump electrical connector.

5.

Disconnect attaching bolt and connect pressure tester to secondary delivery pipe, Fig. 43. Cover hose when disconnecting to prevent fuel
leakage.

6.

Reconnect battery ground cable, then start engine.

7.

On non-turbocharged models, proceed as follows:

a. Disconnect vacuum hose from pressure regulator and observe fuel pressure at idle. Fuel pressure should measure approximately 36 psi.
b. Reconnect vacuum hose and observe fuel pressure. Fuel pressure should measure approximately 28 psi.

8.

On turbocharged models, proceed as follows:

a. Connect jumper wire between pressure regulator solenoid valve (LO) terminal and ground and observe fuel pressure at idle. Fuel pressure

should measure approximately 36 psi.

b. Disconnect jumper wire from solenoid valve and observe fuel pressure. Fuel pressure should measure approximately 28 psi.
