Igniter: Testing and Inspection

1.
Disconnect two prong connector and connect voltmeter between black and yellow wire terminals Fig. 12.

Turn ignition switch to ``On'' and ensure voltage is approximately 12 volts. Connect ohmmeter leads correctly. Connect positive lead to
ground and negative lead to black wire. Disconnect battery ground cable before removing black wire from coil with igniter.

Turn ignition switch to ``Off'' and disconnect voltmeter and the battery ground cable.
4.
Connect igniter checker 49 F018 002 or equivalent between two-prong connectors, Fig. 1.
5.
Disconnect black wire from coil with igniter, then reconnect battery ground cable.
6.
Connect ohmmeter between black wire and ground, then turn ignition switch to ``On''.
7.
Push up ``SW2'' switch on igniter checker while observing ohmmeter. Pointer needle on ohmmeter should jump up to approximately 1/3rd scale
on the X1 scale, then return.
8.
Replace igniter as necessary. High tension leads must remain connected to coil while testing coil with igniter.
