Water Pump: Service and Repair

1.

Disconnect battery ground cable.

2.

Turn eccentric shaft so that top mark of pulley is aligned with indicator pin.

3.

Drain coolant.

4.

Remove cooling fan, then the drive belts, Fig. 52.

5.

Remove eccentric shaft pulley, then disconnect upper and lower radiator hoses and the coolant bypass hose.

6.

Disconnect electrical connectors at water thermo sensor and water thermo switch, if equipped.

7.

Remove water pump.

8.

Remove cooling fan pulley from pump.

9.

Reverse procedure to install noting the following:
a. Install radiator hoses with matching marks aligned.
b. Check cooling fan clearance at top of cowl. If clearance is not 0.63-0.94 inch (16-24mm), move cowl to adjust clearance.
c. Install two spacers on studs where gasket does not mount.
d. Install water pump with new gasket, torque attaching bolts to specification.
