Idle Speed: Adjustments
Idle Speed
The ignition timing is computer controlled
***UPDATED BY TSB #G00190, JUNE 8, 1990
NOTE: On this distributorless ignition (DLI) system, the leading ignition coil discharge is bipolar -- one plug wire terminal is negative, the other
positive. If the inductive pick-up on your timing light has an arrow indicating polarity (telling you which side should be facing the spark plug),
and the light does not flash or flashes only intermittently when clipped on one of the leading spark plug wires, simply reverse the pick-up (clip
the pick-up on with the arrow facing the ignition coil rather than the spark plug). The light should now flash with each coil discharge. If not,
check timing light operation on a conventional ignition system.
PREPARATION
1.
Check engine condition (spark plugs, leaks in hoses, etc.).
2.
Turn all electrical loads "OFF."
3.
Warm engine to operating temperature.

Ground test connector (Green: 1-pin) with a jumper wire.
ADJUSTMENT
1.
Connect tachometer and check idle speed (750 ± 25 rpm).
Adjusting BAC Valve
NOTE: Idle speed is computer controlled. If idle speed is incorrect, remove the blind cap from the bypass air control valve and adjust the idle
speed by turning the air adjust screw (see illustration).
2.
Connect timing light to high-tension lead of front leading side. Check that mark on pulley (yellow) aligns with indicator pin.
