Steering Wheel: Service and Repair
1.
On models equipped with airbag, disarm airbag, refer to Air Bags and Seat Belts/Air Bags (Supplemental Restraint Systems)/Service and
Repair.
2.
On models not equipped with airbag, disconnect battery ground cable.
3.
On all models, mark steering column and steering wheel.
4.
Remove horn cap and steering wheel lock nut. Do not strike the steering column shaft end with a hammer. Striking the shaft will damage the
steering bearing or collapsible steering shaft.
5.
Using a suitable puller, remove steering wheel.
6.
Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. On models with airbags, turn clock spring connector clockwise until it stops. Do not force it.
b. Turn clock spring connector 2-3/4 turns counterclockwise, then align matching marks on outer housing and clock spring connector.
c. On all models, torque steering wheel locknut to 29-36 ft. lbs.
