Evaporative Fuel Vapor Return Hose: Service and Repair

VAPOR TUBE FITTINGS

Disconnect

WARNING:  The evaporative emission system contains fuel vapor and condensed fuel vapor. Although not present in large quantities, it still
presents the danger of explosion or fire. Disconnect the battery ground cable from the battery to minimize the possibility of an electrical spark
occurring, possibly causing a fire or explosion if fuel vapor or liquid fuel is present in the area. Failure to follow these instructions may result in
personal injury.

CAUTION:  When reusing liquid or vapor tube connectors, make sure to use compressed air to remove any foreign material from the connector
retaining clip area before separating the tube.

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. See BATTERY DISCONNECT.

NOTE:  If the vapor tube retainer clip is broken or damaged, install a new clip using a suitable fuel line disconnect tool to separate the retainer
clip legs. Once the retainer clip legs have been separated, lift the clip out of the connector housing. Lifting the stamped side of the housing.

2. Disconnect the vapor tube quick release coupling.

Push the connector toward the tube to release the pressure.

Press the vapor tube quick release coupling button and pull the fuel tube to disconnect.

Connect

1. Clean and inspect the fitting and the tube for damage.
2. Remove any dirt or obstructions.

CAUTION:  Make sure the fuel tube clicks into place when installing the tube. To make sure the tube is fully seated, pull on the tube.

NOTE:  Apply clean engine oil to the end of the tube before inserting the tube into the connector.

3. Push the tube into the fitting until it snaps in place.
4. Pull on the connection to make sure the fitting is secure.
5. Connect the battery ground cable. See BATTERY DISCONNECT.
