Parking Brake Shoe: Adjustments

PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTMENT

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. See  See: Maintenance/Vehicle Lifting/Service and Repair/Lifting.

2. Using the release handle, release the parking brake control.

NOTE: Make sure the parking brake is fully released. 

3. Remove the rear brake disc.

4. Using the special tool, measure the inside diameter of the drum portion of the rear brake disc and set the locking screw.

Record the measurement.

5. Place the special tool over the widest diameter of the parking brake shoes.

6. Adjust the parking brake shoe clearance to 0.50 mm (0.01 in) less than the inside diameter of the drum portion of the rear brake disc.

Rotate the parking brake shoe adjuster wheel to achieve the correct parking brake shoe-to-brake disc clearance.

7. Install the rear brake disc.

8. Test the parking brake for normal operation.
