Cooling System Flushing

COOLING SYSTEM FLUSHING - HYBRID
NOTE: Dispose of old coolant and flushing water contaminated with antifreeze and cleaning chemicals in accordance with local, state or federal laws.
1. Remove the radiator. See - See: Engine, Cooling and Exhaust/Cooling System/Radiator/Service and Repair/Radiator Removal/Installation.
CAUTION: Radiator internal pressure must not exceed 138 kPa (20 psi). Damage to the radiator can result.
2. Backflush the radiator with the radiator in an upside-down position with a high-pressure hose in the lower hose location.
3. Remove the thermostat housing. See - See: Engine, Cooling and Exhaust/Cooling System/Thermostat/Service and Repair.
NOTE: Thermostat and housing are serviced as an assembly.
4. Position a high-pressure water hose into the engine through the engine return and backflush the engine.

MOTOR ELECTRONICS COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING AND FILLING - HYBRID
Draining
CAUTION: The coolant must be recovered in a suitable, clean container for reuse. If the coolant is contaminated, it must be recycled or disposed of
correctly.
CAUTION: Always refill the motor electronics cooling system (MECS) with the same type of coolant that was drained from the system. Do not mix
coolant types.
1. With the vehicle in DRIVE, position it on a hoist. See See: Vehicle Lifting/Service and Repair/Lifting.
2. Turn the ignition to the OFF position.
3. Remove the LH splash shield.
4. Place a suitable container below the transaxle.
