Cover timing case recess while drilling. Carefully remove any drilling tailings and chips that fall into the crankcase recess.

Cylinder head gasket

Cut off as close as possible to the joint between the cylinder head (51 and the engine block (1) with a knife or saw.
Remove any remaining gasket material up to the joint edge. Clean both surfaces around the joint of oil and grease.
Apply beads of sealant 001 989 61 20 10 to the edges.

Important
Protect the sealing surface of the cylinder head from damage from the cutting tool. Place a metal strip or a feeler gauge under the area to be cut.

Timing case cover (44)

Apply sealant 002 989 00 20 10 to the sealing surfaces contacting the engine block and cylinder head.

Head gasket segment (74a)

Apply sealant 002 989 00 20 10 to the upper side.

Note:

Install the timing cover and gasket segment together. Press the gasket segment rearward until it contacts the engine block on both sides.

Locating pins (50 and 50a)

Drive in. Use a new pin for (50a) (part no. 000007 010100).

Retention bolts (77)

Install. Torque to 25 N-m (see note below).

Retention bolts (48)

Install (see guide lines). Torque to 21 N-m (see note below).

Note:

First tighten bolts (77) to specified torque; then tighten bolts (48).
