Since December 1984, the differential housing may be mounted with a spacer to locate it with respect to the propeller shaft.

In case of repair, the following assembly procedure must be observed:

Assembly Procedure
To ensure that the differential housing is located correctly in relation to the propeller shaft, check if the front assembly eye has a tab extension (Figure 1).
1.
On differential housings with the tab (arrow) a 13.5 mm spacer (50 b) is installed in production (Figure 1). The hex. socket mounting screw is 50
mm long.
2.
On differential housings without the tab, a spacer is not installed. In this case, the mounting screw is 30 mm long.

Checking Tightening Torque of Front Mounting Screw
During December 1984 - January 1985 production, the required pre-load on the front mounting screw may not have been attained, despite proper
tightening. This may result in a rattling noise during load changes.
IMPORTANT:
Only vehicles with the spacer described in part A are affected.
