Oil Pressure Gauge: Testing and Inspection
Checking electrical oil pressure gauge
Preceding operations:
-
Instrument cluster removed See: Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators/Instrument Cluster / Carrier/Service and Repair
B5 - Sensor oil pressure gauge
-
Ignition switch in key position 2.
-
Remove electrical connection from oil pressure gauge sensor (B5), nominal value: 3 bar.
-
If the nominal indicating value is not obtained check ground fault in wire from sensor to oil pressure gauge.
-
If wire okay replace indicating instrument.
-
Indicating value 3 bar with engine stopped, key in position 2, connect wire from sensor to ground. If indicated value is 0 replace sensor.
-
If indicated value remains at 3 bar wire is interrupted.
Note:
The oil pressure gauge is electrically controlled.
A sensor (B5) located in the oil filter activates the oil pressure gauge in the instrument cluster.
With ignition switched on, permanent plus is available on the oil pressure gauge in the instrument cluster. Via sensor (B5), minus is connected
to the oil pressure gauge. With increasing pressure the ohmic resistance of the sensor (B5) is increased, consequently changing the indicated
value.
