Riveted Connecting Link For Timing Chain, Engines 102 and 103
A riveted connecting link is to be used when replacing the timing chain on engines with profiled tensioning rail linings (B, Figure 1).
The profiled tensioning rail lining has been installed on engine 102.983 since the start of production and will be phased into production on other 102
engines.
On 103 engines, only the riveted connecting link is to be used.
The previous version connecting link with snap rings (A, Figure 2) can be used up on 102 engines with flat tensioning rail linings.
Procedure

Cover timing chain case with clean shop rag.
