Fan Clutch: Service and Repair
Removing and Installing Viscous Fan Clutch
Viscous fan clutch removal / installation
1. Unscrew radiator bridge (25)
Screw on (9 Nm)
2. Detach bowden cable of hood lock from radiator bridge (25)
3. Position wrench (7) 120 589 13 07 00 on bolt of viscous fan clutch.
4. Position torque wrench (8) 001 589 72 21 00 with head removed (7) in wrench (7) and turn viscous fan.
5. Allow counter-holder (1) to engage from the rear of the belt pulley (21) in the retaining groove (20) of the fan bearing bracket and at the same time
into the retaining hole of the belt pulley.
6. Slacken screw (4) of viscous fan clutch (3)
Tighten (45 Nm).
7. Push radiator slightly forward.
8. Turn wrench (7) with handle (a).
9. Unscrew (4) screws.
10. Remove viscous fan clutch (3) with fan (2) and screw (4)
11. Unscrew viscous fan clutch (3) of fan (2)
Screw on (10 Nm).
Note: The cast part number of the fan (2) must be positioned at the front (radiator side).
