Shift Linkage: Adjustments

    All adjustments described here must  be made with vehicle wheels contacting floor.

CONTROL PRESSURE CABLE

W4A 020 & W4A 040 Model Transmissions

    Engine throttle control must be correctly adjusted, before adjusting control pressure cable.

1.

Disconnect ball socket.

2.

Pull control pressure cable forward until a slight resistance is felt.

3.

In this position, hold ball socket above ball, then engage free cable free of tension.

4.

Adjust using adjusting screw, if necessary.

CONTROL PRESSURE ROD

1.

Remove the air filter.

2.

Disconnect the control pressure linkage.

3.

Push the intermediate lever against the idling speed stop on the drag lever and against the throttle valve lever of the idling speed stop on the
venturi control unit.

4.

Push the control pressure linkage fully toward the rear against its stop.

5.

Adjust the length of the linkage in respect to the ball head. The component should be free of stress. When checking the control pressure linkage
for length, hold the ball socket adjacent to the ball head.

SELECTOR ROD

1.

Disconnect the selector rod from the selector lever with the selector lever in N. Ensure approximately 1 mm play exists between the selector lever
and N stop on gate plate.

2.

Adjust length of selector rod so it can be attached free of stress.

3.

Tighten the counter nut.

STARTER LOCKING & BACK-UP LIGHT SWITCH

1.

Disconnect the selector rod.

2.

Move the range selector lever on the transmission into N.

3.

Tighten the clamping bolt.

4.

Loosen the adjusting screw and insert locating pin 115589186300 through the carrier into the locating hole in the gearshift housing.

5.

Tighten the adjusting screw.

6.

Remove the locating pin.

7.

Put the selector lever inside the car in N.

8.

Attach the selector rod. It should be free of tension.

9.

Check to see that the engine can be started with the selector lever in N and P.

KICKDOWN SWITCH

1.

Depress the accelerator pedal fully against the kickdown position. In this position, the throttle valve lever should rest against the full load stop of
the venturi control unit.

2.

To adjust, loosen the clamp bolt on the retractor lever of the accelerator pedal shaft and turn the accelerator pedal. Tighten the clamp bolt.
