Timing Chain: Application and ID
NOTE: The split timing chain with connecting link is used for repairs.
Check sprockets for score marks and pitting.
Timing chains made of material with higher resistance to wear are installed to provide a longer chain life.
The valid repair timing chain is now also made of the material with increased resistance to wear.
Do not install the former repair timing chain and the connecting link (plug link) any longer.

Repair timing chain
The repair timing chain is made of the same material as the standard series timing chain.
Only a rivet-type plug link (A) is now available for timing chain. Do not use version (B) any longer.
The outer plate of plug link is pressed on with press-on tool, part No. 000 589 58 43 00.
The outer plates are dyed blue.
The former assembly tool 000 589 57 43 for plug links with retaining spring can be converted with conversion kit 000 589 58 43 80.
