Brake Rotor/Disc: Service and Repair
Rear
1. Measure wear in lining opening with special Vernier gauge tool 140589001900, or equivalent, and refer to Brake/Specifications, and replace
rotor according to condition.
2. Visually inspect rotor. If rotor has cracks, score marks deeper than 0.02 inch, or has reached wear limit, then replace.
3. Remove caliper and hang on body with hook. Do not subject brake hose to tension.
4. Remove retaining bolt.
5. Remove brake disc from rear axle flange by tapping lightly with plastic hammer.
6. Check guard attachment to wheel carrier.
7. Check rear axle shaft flange vertical and lateral runout. Use special dial gauge holder tool 363589022100 and special dial gauge A1 DIN 878, or
equivalents. If lateral runout is greater than 0.006 inch replace rotor.
8. Check spreader lock for easy operation.
9. Check brake shoes for wear and replace if required.
10. Reverse procedure to install, noting following:
a. Adjust parking brake after rotor installation.
b. Replacement rotors are coated with cellulose varnish to protect against corrosion. It is necessary to remove this corrosion protection from
brake discs with high-pressure hot water cleaner.
c. When positioning brake disc on rear axle shaft flange, ensure that locating pin is properly engaged in brake rotor.
