Torsion Bar: Service and Repair

To avoid distortion of upper control arm support on torsion bar during removal, installation or when raising vehicle, do not place jack support against
frame floor. Place support against lower control arm. rubber mounts on torsion bar bearing may vary at front wall to compensate body tolerances. During
installation, ensure rubber mounts are returned to their original locations to avoid changes in front wheel caster. Mount and tighten torsion bar bearing on
front end and support of upper control arm on torsion bar only in position in which vehicle is ready for driving. Lubricate hex socket attaching screw on
torsion bar prior to assembly.

1. Remove lower engine compartment lining, if so equipped.
2. Loosen and remove left and right torsion bar bearing bracket from control arm.
3. Loosen bearings from spring leaf rockers and remove torsion bar. Rubber torsion bar mounts do not have a slot. For this reason use rubber

lubricant No. A0009890160, or equivalent, for removal and installation.

4. Reverse procedure to install.
