MODEL 140.0 STARTER LOCK-OUT/BACKUP LAMP SWITCH AND WIRING
In case the starter lock-out/backup lamp switch (S16/3) and/or wiring has to be replaced, follow the instructions described in the Work Instructions #
278. This will allow replacement of the wiring harness more quickly, with considerably less vehicle disassembly.

SUBJECT:
MODEL 140.0 STARTER LOCK-OUT/BACKUP LAMP SWITCH AND WIRING
Procedure
1.
Disconnect wiring harness at transmission.
2.
Replace and adjust start lock-out/backup lamp switch (see SMS, Automatic transmission 722.3 or 722.5, Job No. 27-130).
3.
Remove driver's footwell carpet.
4.
Disconnect starter lock-out backup lamp switch connector (X49/2) and starter lock-out switch/electronic accelerator/cruise control connector
(X50/1), as well as the connector from the kickdown switch (S16/7) (Figure 1).
5.
Cut away branch (a) approximately 200 mm (8 inches) from its entry point into the harness (Arrow). Now remove remaining connections for
transmission wiring harness (b) from vehicle and discard old harness. (Figure 1).
6.
Solder connector pins (part number 016 545 14 28) to the wire ends of the harness (a, Figure 1) remaining with the vehicle.
