Radio - Adapter Kit Recommendations

AFTERMARKET INSTALLATION OF REMOVABLE RADIO ADAPTER KITS

The installation of adapter kits that convert Mercedes-Benz radios into removable slide-out units is not approved for use on any Mercedes-Benz vehicle.
Customers who choose to have them installed should be advised that these kits may cause the following malfunctions to occur:

1.

Weak and noisy AM and FM reception due to unshielded antenna connection.

2.

Inoperative radio controls due to locked up microprocessor caused by connection power in the wrong sequence.

3.

Theft mode caused by improper connection and installation.

4.

AM turner failure caused by short circuited adapter contacts.

5.

Premature discharging of internal lithium backup battery, causing M.Y. 86 and 87 radios to go into theft mode.

6.

Mechanical and electronic failure caused by metal chips resulting from the drilling of mounting holes.

7.

Radio breaking loose as a result of an accident and injuring driver and passengers.

8.

Some of these kits are very low quality and may cause intermittent contact.

Before replacing any radio for any of the above-mentioned conditions due to a customer complaint, it must be ensured that the malfunction or defect was
not caused by a slide-out unit. If the dealer determines that the defect was caused by a slide-out unit, the radio may be returned to the respective vendor
(Becker of N.A. or Alpine of America) for repair at cost, except for problems 1, 7, 8.

Warranty claims that are proven by both MBNA and the respective radio vendor to be caused by removable radio adapter kit installation will be rejected,
and the respective radio returned to the dealer.

Prior to returning the radio, the dealer will be contacted by the Warranty Dept. regarding the expected repair expenses of such a radio. It will be his
decision to have the radio repaired, or returned in the condition he submitted it. If the radio is repaired, the dealers parts account will be charged for the
repair cost.
