Unnecessary Replacement of "Alpine" Radios

1.1

ATA Code

A number of radios are being returned to MBNA with the complaint that they will not accept their assigned antitheft code. After thorough testing by
MBNA and the voucher, every radio checked out to be in good order.

It is important that all dealer personnel involved, thoroughly familiarize themselves with entering the ATA-codes. For reference refer to S.I. MBNA
82/40 as well as the customer's Radio Operation Guide.

Radios submitted for warranty reimbursement, that do not show a defect after testing by MBNA and the vendor, will be returned to the dealer with
subsequent debit tot he claim credit.

1.2

Cassette player 

Radios with abused cassette players, are being submitted to MBNA for warranty reimbursement. In every instance evidence was found that attempts were
made to forcibly remove jammed cassettes from the tape transport mechanism.

The owner's Radio Operation Guide expressively states "If the cassette is not fully released, push and hold the EJ button for three seconds to clear the
tape from the tape transport." Do not use tools and force the cassette from the tape player.

Customers are to be reminded that damaged tapes amy jam the cassette mechanism and void the radio warranty. To avoid cassette damage take the
following precautions:

1.2.1 Always store cassettes in their original case or in the console mounted holder, never in direct sunlight.

1.2.2 Before inserting a tape into the player, make sure that there is no slack in the tape. A loose tape may cause damage to the unit as well as the

cassette itself. Tighten the tape by inserting a pencil into the spindle hole and turn it until the tape is snug.

1.2.3 Do not insert a cassette when the radio is "OFF". Turn the radio "ON" first to avoid damaging the player or tape.

Radios showing signs of physical abuse on the tape player section, as determined by MBNA and the vendor, will be returned to the dealer with
subsequent debit to the claim credit.

Software Changes, "Becker" Radios M.Y. 1990

The following software enhancements were made to M.Y. 1990 Becker radios starting with serial number A 9516100. Exchange radios will be modified
as they are rebuilt.

2.1.

Every third WAIT state (caused by incorrect ATA CODE entry) now lasts twenty for hours. The first and second WAIT states last fifteen minutes
each. Each WAIT state is caused by the entry of three incorrect ATA CODE number. The radio must be left "ON" in order to clear a wait state.

2.2

AM band tuning functions have been replaced by manual tuning functions as follows:

FM tuning increment = 100 KHZ instead of 25 KHZ
AM tuning increment = 10 KHZ instead of 1 KHZ
