300SEL & 1989-91 300SE
1.
Remove rear shock absorber or spring strut.
2.
Ensure upper shock absorber mounting is released first.
3.
Raise and support rear of vehicle.
4.
Insert tensioner plates of spring tensioner tool parallel to each other into rear spring. Ensure at least five coils on spring are between tensioner
plates.
5.
Insert tensioner tool screw through semi-trailing arm opening.
6.
Tighten screw to place tension on spring assembly.
7.
Remove rear spring and rubber mount, Fig. 4, from vehicle.
8.
Reverse procedure to install.
300CE, D, E, SD, SL & TE & 1992 300SE
1.
Raise and support rear of vehicle.
2.
Remove tire and wheel assembly.
3.
Remove spring link cover clamps and the cover.
4.
Insert tensioner plates of spring tensioner tool offset 90° into rear spring. Ensure 5-1/2 spring coils are between tool tensioner plates.
5.
Insert tensioner tool screw through opening in spring link.
6.
Turn tensioner tool screw until spring is free of load. The webs of tensioner screw and guide sleeve must be correctly seated in the grooves of
lower and upper tensioner plates.
7.
Remove lower shock absorber mounting nut.
8.
Remove rear spring and rubber mount.
9.
Reverse procedure to install.
