A. Pulling Rear Hub Using New Removal and Installation Tool

When pulling the rear hub from the double-row tapered wheel bearings, the pulling effort needed for removal may become excessive. This may result
from tolerance variations or corrosion between the tapered wheel bearings and rear hub. In this event, the previously used removal and installation tools
(part nos. 140 589 00 51 00 and 201 589 00 61 00), will be ineffective. A new, reinforced removal and installation tool (part no. 140 589 03 61 00) is
now available.

Support is provided by 6 bolts (010b, Figure 1) outside the rear hub on a support plate (010d). The removal and reinstallation procedure, in principle,
has remained the same and wider applications for the tool are now possible (Figures 1 and 2).

Procedure

1.

Remove backing plate and parking brake assembly (see SMS, Job No. 42-0530).

Two support plates (010d, Figure 2) are available for:

Pull rear hub from the inner bearing race, making sure that support pins (101b, Figure 2) are properly seated in the centering holes of the support
plate (010d).
