Fuel Filter: Testing and Inspection

Connect a fuel pressure/vacuum gauge inline between the fuel pump and the fuel filter inlet.  Start engine and bring to normal operating
temperature.

Check the fuel pressure.  The pressure reading should be between 8.7 and 11.6 psi (0.6 and 0.8 bar) at idle and at least 11.6 psi (0.8 bar) at 3,000
rpm.  If the pressure readings are below what is outlined, proceed to step 3.  If the pressures are above the outlined specifications, proceed to step
4.

Check the fuel pump supply circuit for restrictions.  Repair or replace components as necessary.  If there are no supply circuit problems present,
replace the fuel pump.

4.

Check the fuel filter or discharge lines for restrictions.  Clean lines and replace filter element as required.
