SUBJECT:
MODEL 140.134 (300 SD) SUBSEQUENT INSTALLATION OF FRONT AXLE VIBRATION DAMPERS
The following Work Instructions describes the installation of vibration dampers on the lower front areas of the front axle spring towers. Installation is
identical for the left and right sides except where indicated. Depending on the subject vehicle's chassis end number and the installation performed at the
VPC (if any), the entire assembly (bracket and damper) may need to be installed, or the bracket for the vibration damper may already be riveted to or
welded on the spring tower. See Service Information MBNA 33/2 (June 1992) for production phase-in information. If the brackets are already installed,
proceed to step 7 of this Work Instructions.
Procedure
1.
Remove front wheels.
2.
Clean bracket mounting surface with a scraper, removing any loose weld spots or other debris (crosshatched area, Figure 1).
3.
Using the existing holes in the spring tower, attach drill template (080) to spring tower with the screws (081, 082), washers (083), and nuts
provided (Figure 2). The top of the template is marked "TOP" and is indicated as "c" in Figure 2. Make sure to press the template against the
longitudinal frame member (1, Figure 2) before tightening it.
Note:
The template is also marked for left and right installation. When attaching template to the left spring tower, the side marked "LEFT" should face towards
the center of the vehicle. During a right-hand installation, the side marked "RIGHT" should face towards the center.
