Cabin Air Filter: Service and Repair
Replacing Activated Charcoal Filter

Filter Replacement Interval

Every 60,000 miles or:

-

Every 30,000 miles of frequent vehicle operation in heavily contaminated environments (severe operating conditions).

-

In case customer requests replacement due to personal health interests.

-

In case of excessive filter contamination with resulting loss of efficiency and or continuous odor.

NOTE:  The activated charcoal filter cannot be cleaned.

Filter Replacement Procedure

Removal:

1. Remove the screen wash system.
2. Remove the water collector. See: Air Register/Service and Repair 
3. Cover the dust filter using special tool # 140 589 00 98 00.
4. Remove the five screws (item 3) from cover, which is shown above.
5. Remove the five screws from the cover (item 27) which is shown above.

6. Connect tester # 201 589 13 21 00 to the pneumatic gasket on the charcoal filter, and evacuate.

NOTE:  The filter is held in place by means of a collapsible seal. By applying vacuum to a connection on the filter seal, the seal flattens, allowing
easy removal and reinstallation of the activated charcoal filter.

7. With the tester still connected, remove the canister (filter) upwards and out.
