Fuel Filter: Service and Repair

Special Tool

SPECIAL TOOL

Special tool# 000 589 40 37 00 (hose clamp) or equivalent is needed to perform this procedure.

Fuel Pump And Filter Pack

REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT

1. Release fuel tank pressure by removing the fuel cap.
2. Disconnect the negative battery pole.
3. Remove protective box (69).
4. With special tool# 000 589 40 37 00 (hose clamp) or equivalent, pinch off fuel suction (53) and pressure (52) hose.
5. Get a fuel safe container.
6. Remove screw (59) from fuel filter. Collect remaining fuel with fuel safe container.

WARNING: Fuel may be under pressure. Use a rag or other protective device to shield your face from the fuel spray. 

7. Remove fuel pressure hose (52) from fuel filter. Collect remaining fuel with fuel safe container.
8. Loosen mounting bracket (57).
9. Remove fuel pressure hose (52).

10. Remove fuel filter (55).
11. Install in reverse order. Check for the following:

a. Install fuel filter with plastic sheet. Plastic sheet protects against corrosion between filter and bracket.
b. Install fuel hoses/lines with new cooper seals (62) only.
c. Torque screw (59) to:

9 Nm (6.6 ft. lb.)

12. Run engine and check for leaks.
