Drive/Propeller Shaft: Testing and Inspection
AR41.10-P-0085A Measure Propeller Shaft Alignment With Mechanical Angle Meter
Measure Propeller Shaft Alignment With Mechanical Propeller Shaft Articulation Angle Meter
- with transmission 717, 722
CAUTION:
-
The vehicle must be standing on its wheels for the measurement
-
Transmission suspension and exhaust system must not be under stress when the articulation angle is measured
-
Relieve the stress if necessary
NOTE: Complaints about drive train vibrations or uneven acceleration may be caused by a deviation of the propeller shaft articulation angle from the
specified value
1
Detach engine encapsulation
-
Only model 202.1
2
Measure and note down absolute angle at transmission
-
Only vehicles with 4 or 5-speed manual transmission and automatic transmission
3
Measure and note down absolute angle at front and rear propeller shaft
4
Measure and note absolute angle at rear axle housing
5
Calculate front, (41), center (42) and rear articulation angles(43) and correct if necessary
-
Front articulation angle from transmission to front propeller shaft (41)
-
Center articulation angle from front propeller shaft to rear propeller shaft (42)
-
Rear articulation angle from rear propeller shaft to rear axle center assembly (43)
-
Articulation angle from front propeller shaft to intermediate shaft
-
Articulation angle from intermediate shaft to rear propeller shaft
NOTE:
-
If the articulation angle requires correction, perform necessary assembly work.
-
Carry out a check measurement again each time the articulation angle is corrected.
