Remove outside door handle of affected door(s) (see respective Service Microfiche, Body Assembly Jobs I, job nos. 72-240 and/or 241).

Note:

Do not remove metal bearing bracket (from inside the door).

Remove burrs on the plastic door handle with a sharp knife (arrow, Figure 3).

File down the ridges on the metal bearing bracket.

Remove front base plate and cut off front holding lugs (arrows, Figure 5).

If the base plate is deformed in the area of the holding lugs replace the base plate.

Note:

The part number for the modified base plate is unchanged. The previous version base plates can be used if the holding lugs are cut off.

Install base plate and door handle. Check function of door handle.

Lock Cylinder Grease

If the lock cylinders are stiff to turn, use lock cylinder grease 001 989 26 51 10 (Figure 7). The grease (temperature stable to -40~F/C) may be sprayed
directly into the lock cylinder through the special shape of the spray nozzle.
