Seat Cover - (Leather) Re-Dying Process

RE-DYEING LEATHER SEAT COVERS

When re-dyeing leather seat covers, observe the following:

Cartridge type respirator (TC-23C) must be worn when mixing and spraying.

Re-dye to original color only, in accordance with the equipment code (re-dyeing to another color is not recommended and will not be accepted in
warranty cases).

Stir the dye thoroughly before use (shaking is not sufficient).

-

Thoroughly clean area to be re-dyed with a clean shop rag moistened with MB Thinner and then let area dry.

Mask adjoining surfaces.

-

Ensure that dye container lid is tightly clo6ed when not in use.

Applying Leather Dye With Brush

For minor applications (scratches, etc.), the dye can be applied using a brush (several applications may be necessary)

Allow dyed area to dry for approximately two hours at room temperature of 68°F (20°C).

Applying Leather Dye With Air Brush

To apply leather dye to larger areas (no larger than the size of a hand) an air brush should be used.

Maximum spray pressure: 14.5 - 29 psi (1-2 bar).

Treating Chafed or Damaged Areas Prior to Re-Dyeing

Re-dyeing areas with chafe marks or a damaged leather surface may require sanding the rough leather surface with a fine grain (800 grit) sand paper
prior to dye application. A rough leather surface offers poor dye adhesion and difficulty in matching of undamaged adjoining surfaces.

After sanding, spray the area with MB Thinner to improve dye adhesion.

After the thinner has evaporated (approximately 5-10 minutes), spray the dye on evenly. Repeat dye application 2-3 times at 30 minute intervals until
damaged area is completely covered. In order to contain a smooth finish, blend the edges of the repaired section with the adjoining surfaces for a uniform
transition.

Allow dyed area to dry for approximately two hours at room temperature of 68°F (20°C).

After the area has completely dried, treat the entire seat cover with MB Leather Cleaner.

WARNING! 

The leather dye and thinner are flammable. Do not smoke or use an open flame while working with these materials. Observe precautions on
container.

Storage

MB Leather Dye can be stored for approximately one year under normal temperatures [maximum of 77°F (25°C)]. Protect against freezing.
