Fan Clutch: Service and Repair
Fan Clutch Bearing Bracket

NOTE:  Numbers in parentheses ( ) indicate a component or tool in the associated illustration.

Replacement

1. Remove viscous fan clutch.

2. Remove cover (10).
3. Unplug ignition cable (4) and connector of camshaft adjuster.
4. Unbolt high voltage distributor (11) with ignition cable connected.
5. Unbolt holder of cover (10a).
6. On Model 140, unclip vacuum line at holder of bearing bracket, clip in place (3x).
7. On all models, slacken bolts (19) of belt pulley (21) of fan.
8. Remove poly V-belt (8).
9. Remove plate (20).

10. Remove belt pulley (21).
11. On Model 129, open expansion reservoir cap to release pressure. Also, unbolt heating water return line (27) at coolant pump and bearing bracket

(22) and plug opening of coolant pump.

12. On all models, unscrew bolts (1), (2), (3), (4) and (5).
13. Remove bearing bracket (22).
14. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:

On Model 129:
-

Replace seal (97) in timing case cover.

-

Replace seal (27a)

-

Coat fit collar bolt (4) with sealant.

-

On all models, 
-

Tighten bolts (1), (2), (3), (4) and (5) to 21 Nm

-

Tighten bolts (19) of belt pulley (21) of fan to 15 Nm

-

Tighten bolts of high voltage distributor (11) to 10 Nm

-

Pour in coolant.

-

Check cooling system for leaks.
