Oil Cooler: Service and Repair

1. Remove top part of resonance intake manifold.

2. Unscrew screw cover (2) at oil filter (5).

Installation Note:  Screw on so that the engine oil in the oil filter flows off into the pan

3. Drain coolant at crankcase.
4. Detach coolant hose (9) at rear of cylinder head.
5. Unbolt coolant pipe (3) at bottom part of resonance intake manifold.

Replace O-ring (3b) at heat exchanger.

6. Take off coolant hose (4) from crankcase to heat exchanger

Installation Note:  On Models 124 and 129, it is essential to maintain clearance of the hose clips to the solenoid switch of the starter!
Install bottom single rear hose clip only when oil filter removed. Pay attention to position of top and bottom hose clips so that accelerator control
linkage does not get jammed.

7. Unbolt oil-to-coolant heat exchanger (5) at crankcase.

Installation Note:  Tighten to 21 Nm.

8. Clean sealing surfaces.
9. Replace gasket (5a).

10. Unbolt oil-to-coolant heat exchanger (5) at oil filter.

NOTE:  If a leak is suspected, pressure test oil-to-coolant heat exchanger (5).

11. Replace gasket.
12. Pour in coolant.
13. Check cooling system for leaks.
14. Check oil level in engine  and adjust to correct level.
15. Run engine and check for leaks.
