Scrupulous cleanliness is essential when performing any work on the steering gear.
The work should be performed, if possible, on a plastic base. Do not use fluffy cloths; chamois leather is particularly suitable for this kind of work.
Following disassembly, all the parts must be washed and blown dry with compressed air.
When examining steering parts, always apply a strict standard. In cases of doubt, always replace the part concerned.
No repair work may be carried out on the steering gear 765.961 (model 140 special protection). If steering gear complaints have been received the
gear must be replaced.

Remove steering gear from vehicle.
Removing and Installing Parameter Steering (PML) P-Valve (Y10)

Mount gear on assembly support 140 589 00 59 00 with two screws and clamp in the vise.

Measure Total Friction Torque at steering shaft with friction torquemeter 123 589 02 21 O0 and wrench socket insert 123 589 00 O8 00 by slowly
turning the steering shaft from stop to stop several times.
