For easier of the doors, the transmission ratio of the lock-release linkage was changed. The result is a larger release lift at the door handles.

Depending on the model, changes were made on locks, outside door handles and to same extent, the doors themselves.

Model 126 Beginning with December 1988 production, modified locks, outside door handles and doors were phased-in. New part numbers were
assigned to the new version parts (see parts microfiche).

Adjusting the drive bolt clearance (0 to 1 mm) remains the same for all four doors (see SMS job 72-240 and 72-241).

Model 201 Beginning with May 1989 production, modified locks were phased-in on all 4 doors. The new part numbers are listed in the parts
microfiche.

Adjust the drive bolt clearance at the door locks (0 to 1 mm) of previous version outside front door handles via the eccentric screw (same as in Model
124)  (arrow, Figure 1). The part numbers remain unchanged. Front doors without the eccentric screw adjustment should only be installed on vehicles
with the previous version lock.

On the mpdified outside rear door handles, the drive bolt clearance cannot be adjusted.

Note:

Retrofitting previous production vehicles is not recommended.
