Piston: Description and Operation

Connecting rod bearing and connecting rod bushing bores are similar in width. A weight compensation is attached at the left and right of the
connecting rod bearing cap. Only connecting rods of similar weight may be installed in one engine. Connecting rods which have become
overheated as a result of bearing damage (blue coloring), may no longer be used. Connecting rod and bearing caps are marked together. There
should be no transverse score marks and notches on the connecting rod shaft.
A group code letter A, B or X, piston code number 05 or 06 for 602 engine, 09 for 603 engines and the driving direction (arrow) are punched into
the piston crown. The group code letter is also stamped into the cylinder crankcase parting surface. For repairs only, pistons with group code
letters X are available. These pistons are also for installation in cylinder bores with group code letters A or B.
Connecting rod bolt maximum shank length is 2.083 inches.
Torque connecting rod bolts to 29.5 ft. lbs., then turn an additional 90-100°.
