INSTALLATION

1.

Align mark on steering shaft cam with mark on combination switch side of steering column. Also check airbag unit and horn contacts for damage
prior to installation of steering wheel.

2.

On 1989-91 models, position steering wheel to steering shaft. Curved spokes of steering wheel should be at bottom.

3.

On 1992 models, align steering shaft spindle mark with two hub grooves, Fig. 2.

4.

On all models, install steering wheel to steering shaft countersunk screw and torque to 59 ft. lbs.

5.

Check steering wheel to road wheel alignment in the straight ahead position. If not properly aligned check toe setting and correct as necessary. If
toe setting is correct, disconnect steering shaft coupling from steering gear stub shaft. The steering shaft may be rotated 2 teeth in the required
direction to correct steering wheel position.

6.

Connect electrical plug to slip ring connection.

7.

Connector electrical connector to airbag unit gas generator, Fig. 1. Ensure electrical connector is properly engaged.

8.

Position airbag unit to steering wheel.

9.

From rear of steering wheel install two Torx screws attaching airbag unit to steering wheel, Fig. 3. Torque attaching screws to 4.4 ft. lbs.

10.

With hand, lightly tap steering wheel rim and check for noises indicating tilting or play between airbag unit and steering wheel. If noise is present,
loosen the two airbag unit to steering wheel attaching screws align airbag unit to steering wheel. Torque left hand attaching screw to 4.4 ft. lbs.
Lightly pull airbag unit at right hand side away from steering wheel and torque right hand attaching screw to 4.4 ft. lbs.

11.

Using a suitable tester, check Supplemental Restraint System for proper operation.

12.

After checking system, ensure battery ground cable is disconnected and taped and that ignition switch is in the ``0'' position.

13.

Connect electrical connector to Supplemental Restraint System releasing unit.

14.

Install right hand foot support and carpet.

15.

Connect battery ground cable, then with engine operating, cycle steering wheel from lock to lock while observing Supplemental Restraint System
(RS) indicator lamp. The lamp should remain off as steering wheel is cycled.
