Coolant Reservoir: Service and Repair
Replacing Expansion Reservoir
Removal and Installation

Open cap (2) on expansion reservoir (1) (release pressure)
WARNING: Do not open cap (2) unless coolant temperature is below 90°C. Risk of scalding!

Drain coolant from radiator (until expansion reservoir is empty), pour in. See: Service and Repair

Unplug connector of plug connection (S41) of coolant level indictor, plug in.

Detach coolant hoses (4), (5), attach.

Detach line (6) to overflow reservoir, attach.

Unscrew nuts (7), screw on.

Remove expansion reservoir (1), install.
CAUTION: Pay attention to rubber pad (9) of expansion reservoir (1).
NOTE:

As of vehicle ident end no. 124.034 1B 786 454 and 124.036 IB 783 119, respectively, an expansion reservoir 124 500 15 49 with integrated
vent valve has been installed.

This prevents air getting into the cooling circuit when the coolant level drops.

Detach coolant hose (4) for filling.
