Sunroof / Moonroof Frame: Service and Repair

NOTE:  References to "items" are meant for actual components within these images. References to figures are meant for the images that are boxed off
within this image.

-

Remove headliner.

-

Remove tilting/sliding roof panel. 

-

Remove control cable. 

-

Insert adjustment gauges, part no. 140 589 05 21 00 (Fig. 1) into tilting bracket on left and right.

CAUTION:  Installation of the adjustment gauges locks the extending support preventing an injury hazard when the tilting/sliding roof frame is
removed.

-

Unscrew tube (Fig. 2) on tilting/sliding roof frame.

-

Pull off water hoses (item 1).

-

Unscrew screws (item 2, 3, 4) except for two screws in the center of the tilting/sliding roof frame (item 3).

-

Remove head rests on driver's and passenger seat and slide seats toward front.

-

Unscrew screws (item 3), lower tilting/sliding roof frame at front with help of a second technician and raise in driving direction while moving tube
out toward rear.

-

Remove tilting/sliding roof frame through rear door.

-

Replace gaskets (item 4) replace.

-

Reinstall in opposite order.

CAUTION:  The two rear screws (item 2) have a metric thread. The two front screws (item 3) on the left and right must be tightened first to center
the tilting/sliding roof frame in relation to the cutout for the tilting-out/sliding roof.
