Engine - Checking Hydraulic Mounts

MODELS 124 AND 201 CHECKING HYDRAULIC ENGINE MOUNTS

In case of customer complaints regarding rough engine idle or engine noise, verify and identify the correct source of the complaint. If the source is found
to be the hydraulic engine mounts, the mounts must be checked before installing new mounts.

A hydraulically dampened engine mount can be checked for fatigue by using special tool 940 589 00 46 00.

Procedure

1.

Remove engine compartment encapsulation panels.

2.

Guide special tool into place from below, between the engine mount and cross member from the side inclined towards the engine (arrow).

3.

If the block portion of the tool can not pass through this space, then the engine mount is fatigued and should be replaced.

If the tool can pass through this space (ie. the mounts are not fatigued), then the reason for the customer complaint may be tension in the engine
suspension. To relieve tension in the engine suspension:

1.

Remove rear engine mount fastening bolt from support.

2.

Loosen exhaust bracket from transmission.

3.

Loosen exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold.

4.

Loosen front engine mount lower fastening bolts.

5.

Loosen front engine mount upper fastening bolts.

6.

Raise engine just enough so that the mounts can be rotated by hand.

7.

Lower engine.

8.

Tighten front engine mount:
first tighten lower fastening bolt to 40 N-m, then tighten upper fastening bolt to 55 N-m.

9.

Align rear engine mount.

10.

Manually lift and lower the transmission 2-3 times (in vertical direction) to release any tension in the engine suspension.

If the threaded bores of the rear engine mount do not align with the bores of the engine support, loosen and align engine support.

11.

Tighten transmission mounting bolts to 25 N-m. If necessary, tighten engine support bolts to 40 N-m.

12.

Tighten exhaust pipe to exhaust manifold evenly to 25 N-m.

13.

Tighten exhaust bracket on transmission to 25 N-m.

14.

Reinstall engine encapsulation panels.

Warranty Information

Hydraulic engine mounts returned under warranty that are not fatigued will be returned and the dealers account debited.
