Side Air Bag: Description and Operation
Side Airbag Sensor

The side airbag sensors (A53 and A54) are located on the crossmember below the left and right front seats. They register the lateral acceleration of the
vehicle during a side collision and cause the control module (N2/2) to trigger the sidebags.

Function

The side airbag sensors sense the acceleration acting in the lateral direction of the vehicle in the event of a side collision and initiate a logic check in the 
ETR control module with airbag (N2/2). If the values coincide a triggering signal is sent to the side airbag squibs (R12/9 and R12/10).
