ELECTRICAL INTERFERENCE WHEN OPERATING CASSETTE PLAYER
IN DOLBY C MODE
MODEL 126 WITH MERCEDES-BENZ SOUND SYSTEM

Electrical interference which occurs when operating the cassette player with the Dolby C button engaged and the vehicle exterior lamps switched on, can
be eliminated by performing the procedure described below.

This interference is caused by the pulsed voltage output of the illumination control unit (N40) that supplies circuit 58D to the radio via connector block
X6/1. Connecting the radio to the instrument illumination rheostat circuit 58d instead, via connector block X6, will eliminate this condition.

Starting in May 1988, this change entered production to correct this condition.

Procedure

1.

Disconnect and cover battery negative terminal.

2.

Remove left lower instrument panel cover.

3.

Remove left cover panel on transmission tunnel (console).

4.

Remove radio.

5.

Unplug connector A2x1 (Figure 1) from radio and remove socket 3 from connector. Cut off socket and insulate wire.

6.

Make new wire according to illustration (Figure 2) and insert in connector A2x1, socket 3.
